Open Department Tuition
Tuition in the Open Department of the Nurmijärvi Music Institute is not tied to the curriculum of the Music Institute. Open Department Tuition is not basic art education as defined by law. Therefore, subsidies granted by the Finnish state and Nurmijärvi municipality, intended for basic art education, are not used for this, but the costs of education are covered by student fees, in principle. Thus, the tuition fee of the open department is higher than in the basic art education.
Since the curriculum does not guide the open department, the content of the instrument lessons and the pace of the teaching can be determined completely freely, according to the preferences of the student. In the open department, there is also no obligation to study the basics of music, or to participate in ensemble playing. However, students can participate in Mupe groups at the Music Institute if they wish.
We offer open department tuition in the following instruments, according to the student situation: violin, viola, cello, double bass, trumpet, French horn, trombone, flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, piano, organ, accordion, kantele, guitar, harp. The organization of tuition in the different agglomerations is shown on the website at 'Teaching Premises'.
